Frederick Holmes School is a member of the Fair Share initiative. Fair Share is a national UK Charity which seeks to fight hunger and food waste. Fair Share redistributes food that would otherwise be destroyed.
Once a week the School places an order with Fair Share, and a delivery is received. The food the school receives is used in cookery lessons, or as part of the curriculum, or is shared with students and families.
The great thing about this process for Frederick Holmes School (as well as helping to reduce waste) is that our students are involved in it. Thus we have students who are involved in ordering, sorting and distributing the produce. Of course, students in most of the classes are also involved in using the produce as part of their cookery lessons.
