Background

The government has provided additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

Summary of Objectives 2016 – 2017

  • To improve the provision of PE through personalised physical activity programmes/ groups and specialist staff.
  • To develop staff confidence through training and use of sports coaches.
  • To provide specialist facility and equipment necessary to promote physical development and support pupils with severe physical disability.
  • To develop understanding of the physical management and postural management needs of all pupils and work in collaboration with Health teams to meet the holistic needs of the pupils.

Change of position and physical skills for the most profoundly disabled. Cross-curricular skills particularly communication Audit: All classes with pupils involved found the rebound to be beneficial. Links have been developed with many curriculum areas including Maths and Communication. Pupils are familiar with start and finish activities and Objects of Reference. Staff requested programme be extended to more pupils and be available more often.
Sportsability Coaches x 2, 1 hour per week

Staff training. Pupil engagement Audit: Very positive. Staff training through modelling. Provided a focus on physical activity and opportunity to try new sport and games. Pupils developed attention skills.
1 Lv3 TA plus1 L4 TA support use of adapted cycles 3hrs per week

Facilitators for Wed pm PE programme (Sportsability Coaches) Audit: Pupils develop independence skills and self esteem. Several have become independently mobile through the bike programme. Cross curricular skills including following instructions, following directions. Developing balance and physicality. Bike group celebrated through Class of Year Trophy.
Reflexology Training for 2 additional staff. Cover cost only . Training free to host. Cover cost £200 To extend use of FRT particularly for profoundly disabled FRT included into PE programme and lessons. Pupils benefit from hand/foot massage from FRT trained staff.

  • To develop staff confidence through training, use of sports coaches and providing opportunity for staff to lead sporting activity and develop skills.
