Background

The government has provided additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

Summary of Objectives 2015 – 2016

  • To improve the provision of PE through personalised physical activity programmes/ groups and specialist staff.
  • To develop staff confidence through training and use of sports coaches.
  • To provide specialist facility and equipment necessary to promote physical development and support pupils with severe physical disability.
  • To develop understanding of the physical management and postural management needs of all pupils and work in collaboration with Health teams to meet the holistic needs of the pupils.

To develop staff confidence and skills through training in rebound therapy. Change of position and physical skills for the most profoundly disabled. Opportunity to develop cross-curricular skills Audit: All classes with pupils involved found the rebound to be beneficial. Links have been developed with many curriculum areas including Maths and Communication. Pupils are familiar with start and finish activities and Objects of Reference. Staff requested programme be extended to more pupils and be available more often. Very complimentary of the specialist TA.
Sportsability Coaches x 2, 1 hour per week

Staff training. Audit: Very positive. Staff and pupils enjoyed coaches. Provided a focus on physical activity and opportunity to try new sport and games. Pupils developed attention skills.

  • To support pupils to access competitive sport opportunities through additional staffing and transport.
  • To develop staff confidence through training, use of sports coaches and providing opportunity for staff to lead sporting activity and develop skills.
  • To provide specialist facility and equipment necessary to promote physical development and support pupils with severe physical disability.

Rebound Therapy: Specialist Lv2 TA, 6.25hrs per week. £1643 Included in pupil physical management. Change of position. Personalised physical development and skills targets for an increasing number of pupils.
Lv2 TA to support use of adapted cycles one morning per week £1383 Personalised physical development and skills targets for pupils who have independent function of arms/legs.
Sportsability coaches x 2 – 1hr per week £1500 Increase staff confidence through professional coaching. Increase range of activities. Raise profile of physical activity and healthy lifestyle.

Reflexology Training for 3 staff plus cover £450 FRT included into PE programme and lessons. Pupils benefit from hand/foot massage from FRT trained staff.
Membership to Sports Partnership. Cover costs. Transport and additional TA support to events. £1500 Explore possibility of increased participation in competitive sport through PE Partnership and swimming clubs.
